The Red and White welcomed the nationally-ranked Bullets to the Kline Center with a chance to make a statement to not only the conference, but the nation. After going down early 8-2, a pair of Zerbe layups moved the deficit to three (9-6). Despite buckets for John and Marion the Devils still entered the second down by four (15-11). Early in the second the duo of John and Weinstein netted six in a row to make it 20-17 in favor of GC, but then four of the next six went to the Bullets for the 24-19 edge. Blackman and Hollenshead would combine to knot things up at 24, before Szlosek split a pair on the line making the score 25-24 going to half. The trio of Hollenshead, Marion and Zerbe brought DC to the front 34-32, After Alayna Arnolie drilled a three to push GC back ahead (35-34), John and Marion nudged the home side on top 38-35. Team Overview
Inside the Devils Den (19-7, 15-5 Centennial)
After dropping their season opener to Elizabethtown College on the road by a 64-56 result the Devils rebounded nicely ripping off wins against 21st-ranked Messiah University (61-45), McDaniel College (51-29), Muhlenberg College (51-44) and Swarthmore College (65-46). Then, after two road setbacks to conference powerhouses Gettysburg and Johns Hopkins, the Red and White went into the holiday with a dominant 58-29 non-conference win over Hood College. Coming off the holiday rest, the Devils ventured to Massachusetts for two games at Smith College. First, they suffered a hard-fought 67-60 loss to nationally-recognized UMass-Dartmouth, before upsetting eighth-ranked Smith on their home floor 66-63 ending the Pioneers 43-game winning streak inside Ainsworth Gymnasium. That victory kickstarted a string of 11-straight wins from January into mid-February when they dropped their first two games inside the Kline to 24th-ranked Gettysburg (64-55) and 11th-ranked Johns Hopkins (67-49). Dickinson ended the year winning two of their final three games to lockup the third seed in the tournament.Â
Fireside Review - Last Game: DEVILS 46, Garnet 42 (CC First Round)
After Dickinson trailed 4-0 early in the first, triples by Blackman (2) and Weinstein (2) along with buckets for Hollenshead ended an 18-0 run that spanned the rest of the opening period into the start of the second. Eight of the next ten went to the visitors allowing Swarthmore to chip away slightly to 20-12. Three-balls by Blackman as well as Marion helped DC to carry a 26-19 lead to the break. Following a triple from Marion, the group of Dana Bandurick, Alyssa Hayashi and Norah Wingfield answered back with a 9-2 run to make it 31-26. However, the Red and White ended on a 7-2 scamper thanks to jumpers from Blackman, Hollenshead and Weinstein to lead by ten entering the fourth. Dickinson maintained a ten-point lead early in the fourth, but an 11-3 gallop for the Garnet to cut the deficit down to 44-42. Fortunately, Marion cashed in two free throws inside the final minute to seal up the win.
