Devils Fall Short of Conference Title Game Berth With Loss to Second-Seeded Bullets

GETTYSBURG, Pa. –  The third-seeded Dickinson women's basketball team saw their 2023-24 season come to an unfortunate end on Friday night as they fell 74-48 to the second-seeded Gettysburg College at Bream Gymnasium in the Semifinals of the Centennial Conference Tournament.

The game started rough for the Red and White as the trio of Alayna Arnolie, Shinya Lee and Mackenzie Szlosek put Gettysburg out in front 12-0 with 5:42 gone prompting a DC timeout. Out of the break Caitlin Blackman hit from deep and John tallied in the paint to get within ten 15-5 with 2:20 left. Unfortunately, the Bullets notched the final five points of the frame to grab a commanding 20-5 lead through one.

Gettysburg just continued to hit the bottom of the net to kickoff the second as AB Holsinger and Lee extended it to 25-5, before another Blackman trey stunted the charge for a second. However, Caitlyn Priore, Emily Violante, Arnolie, Holsinger and Szlosek galloped to 13-5 run pushing it out to 38-10 at the 7:11 mark. Buckets for Clair Marion, Ella Smith and Victoria Zerbe dropped the margin to 43-16 heading into the locker room. The Devils ended the half shooting just 6-of-31 from the floor for 19.4%, while the home side finished 16-for-26 (61.5%).

The Bullets began the third just like they had been all night hot from the floor with Lee, Szlosek and Violante embarking on a 9-3 charge with Marion providing the offense for Dickinson making it 52-19. Jumpers for both Lindsey Hollenshead and Smith cut it down to 52-23, but Lee, Priore, Szlosek and Violante opened things back out 62-24 inside the final three minutes of the period. The Red and White responded with a 7-3 run thanks to triples from Blackman and Marion along with a foul shot for Zerbe making it 65-31 going to the fourth.

Dickinson came out on fire to start the fourth going on a 9-1 run with buckets by Blackman, Hollenshead, Marion and Zerbe to get within 66-40 with under six minutes left. After five of the next eight went the way of the home side (71-43), the Red and White ended the game with buckets from Molly Heron, Blackman, Hollenshead and Marion to set the 74-48 result.

Next on the Court
Dickinson (19-8) have an outstanding season come to a conclusion, but with only one senior (Lindsey Hollenshead) and solid returning crew along with an influx of new talent the Red and White will be a top contender for the 2024-25 campaign next fall.
