ATLANTA, Ga. - The Dickinson women's basketball team outscored Bethany College 43-26 over the final 20 minutes to turn a 35-27 halftime deficit into a 70-61 win on day one of the Emory Tipoff Classic inside of the Woodruff Physical Education Center on the campus of Emory University.
First Quarter
- Four early points by Mia Chapman had the Devils out to a slim 4-3 lead two minutes in.
- The group of Addy Blazer, Lindsey Garrison, Amaria Jones and Ella Simpson then went on an 11-1 romp over the following four minutes to claim a 14-5 lead.
- Five of the next seven went to DC with contribution coming from Clare Cronley, Esther Nlebemuo and Atlanta native Lizzie McGrath to close within 16-10 with a minute to go.
- Lindsey and Addison Cadwell would trade baskets to end the period (18-12).
Second Quarter
- Chapman opened the scoring 21-seconds in, but the Bison responded with a 7-2 charge to stretch the advantage to 25-16 with four minutes off the clock.
- The next two buckets went the way of the Red and White as Jelena Subasic and Chapman trimmed the margin by four (25-20).
- After an "and one" opportunity by Garrison (28-20), Emma Landes, Victoria Zerbe and Cadwell all found the bottom of the bucket for the Devils, but could not cut into the deficit as it stayed at eight through 20 minutes at 35-27.
Third Quarter
- The duo of Blazer and Garrison scored five of the first seven points to extend the gap to 40-29 not even a minute in.
- Four points each from Chapman and Cronley over the next couple of minutes gave the Devils life at 42-37 with 3:24 off the clock.
- Blazer stemmed the tide for a moment before McGrath hit from deep and Cronley and Zerbe brought the Red and White to the doorstep (46-45) still with three-plus minutes to play.
- Two free throws by Kate Botti and Garrison made the lead 50-47, but Cadwell found McGrath for a triple at the horn to tie the game at 50 with a period to go.
Fourth Quarter
- A layup by Gabby Smelcer gave the Devils their first lead since 4-3 at 52-50 at the 32-second mark.
- Points for Lindsey Best, Kaedlee Potter and Garrison moved the Bison back ahead 57-56, before a jumper knocked down by Nlebemuo off a dish from Leah Dubin nudged DC on top 58-57 with 5:24 left.
- With Dickinson behind 60-58 and just over three minutes remaining a jumper by McGrath kicked off a 12-1 Devils outburst to end the game with points coming from Chapman and Cronley to finish off the 70-61 win.
