DALLAS, Pa. - The Dickinson women's basketball team got double-digits from the trio of
Mia Chapman,
Clare Cronley and
Victoria Zerbe, and rode a 15-6 first quarter advantage to a 60-51 non-conference win over the host Misericordia University on Thursday night inside the Anderson Sports Center.
First Quarter
- The Devils opened the game up with a 2-0 lead on a jumper from Leah Dubin.Â
- Misericordia answered with six in a row courtesy of Morgan Janeski and Caitlin Landgraf to jump ahead 6-2 four minutes in.
- A triple knocked down by Lizzie McGrath started a 13-0 DC charge to end the frame with contributions coming from Emma Landes and Chapman giving the Red and White a 15-6 edge after ten minutes.
Second Quarter
- Chase Purdy began the frame with a three ball, before a triple by Dubin and layup for Zerbe extended the DC advantage to 20-9 with two minutes off the clock.
- Another bucket from Purdy sent the home team on a 12-2 romp to close the visitors lead to just one (22-21) with 4:31 to go.
- The duo of Chapman and Landes each connected on a jumper making it 26-21, but Emily Romanowski and Landgraf picked up a bucket prior to the final horn to get within 26-25 at half.
Third Quarter
- The crew of Chapman, Cronley, Dubin and McGrath used the first 4:25 to score eight of the opening ten points to giving the Devils a 34-27 lead.
- Two free throws by Lizzy Mitchell slowed the DC roll for a second, before six points for Esther Nlebemuo pushed the edge to 40-32 with 90 seconds remaining.
- However, the Cougars battled back as Purdy and Romanowski each recorded a layup to cut the margin down to four (40-36) with a period to play.
Fourth Quarter
- After the two sides shared the opening four points, three points by Cronley and four collected by Zerbe stretched the Dickinson gap to double-digits at 49-38 still with half the period to play.
- Purdy and Romanowski hacked four off the deficit (49-42), but Chapman, Cronley and Landes allowed the Red and White to keep the advantage in double figures (56-45) inside of 30 seconds remaining.
- From there free throws hit by Cronley and Zerbe down the stretch allowed the Devils to close out the game at 60-51.
