Devils Late Charge Repelled by Bullets

CARLISLE, Pa. - In front of a raucous crowd at the Kline Center on Wednesday night, the Dickinson women's basketball team went in search of a season series split with the visiting Gettysburg College. The Red and White were game all night long, but a 13-2 run in the third quarter was enough to propel the Bullets to a lead that the Devils could not erase as the visitors claimed a 69-60 conference win.

First Quarter
  • Dickinson got off to a quick start as a layup for Victoria Zerbe and triple by Clare Cronley made it 5-0 only two minutes in.
  • Reagan Chrencik, Ava O'Neil and Amanda Rapel each picked up a bucket over the ensuing two minutes to jump in front 6-5.
  • Six points by Zerbe pulled the home side level at 11-11 with 6:35 gone. The two sides would then combine to miss ten consecutive shots, before Lizzie McGrath converted a jumper at the horn off a dish by Esther Nlebemuo to give DC a 13-11 edge.
Second Quarter
  • It took nearly 90 seconds for the Devils to extend their advantage to 16-11 thanks to a three-point play finished off by Zerbe.
  • The Bullets then used a 12-2 outburst aided by six points for Rapel to open up a 23-18 advantage with 3:38 left.
  • A steal by Leah Dubin off a pass from Chrencik led to a trey for Jelena Subasic bringing the gap to 23-21.
  • Four of the final six points went the way of the Bullets with Subasic notching the final Dickinson bucket leaving GC in front 27-23.
Third Quarter
  • For the second time in the game both sides were cold from the floor as they came up empty on their first eight shots, before two at the line by Kimberly Hopkins ended drought. Those shots then sparked a 16-3 march for the Bullets ending with two more Hopkins foul shots making it 43-26 with 6:29 gone.
  • Four points for Zerbe and two each from Cronley and McGrath cut the deficit ot 45-34.
  • A jumper by Olivia Jones was then immediately followed with a shot from downtown for McGrath to close the margin to ten (47-37).
Fourth Quarter
  • The two teams traded the opening ten points with McGrath and Zerbe tallying for the Devils, while Hopkins and Rapel answered for the Bullets (52-42).
  • Another layup from Zerbe along with two at the stripe for Cronley made it 55-46 at the halfway point of the period.
  • Over the ensuing minute three each by McGrath and Rapel did little to separate the sides (58-49).
  • A free throw for Cronley, trey by Emma Landes and an "old-fashioned" three-point play from Zerbe brought the Devils to within four (60-56) and the crowd into a frenzy.
  • Unfortunately, the Bullets ended with a 9-4 run as buckets from Cronley and McGrath capped off the scoring at 69-60.
