CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Dickinson men's squash team was quite active over the weekend as they played three matches in three days at the Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference Championships inside the Boar's Head Sports Club. Friday and Saturday saw the Red and White battle the University of Virginia and Franklin & Marshall College respectively, before squaring off with the United States Naval Academy in a fight for fifth-place.

Inside the Match
Virginia would be in control all match long winning each flight by 3-0 margins. The top three players of
Joe Smythe,
Owen Buroker and
Will Krizek each gave their foe a competitive match by all picking up ten-plus points during their match. Smythe led the way for the Red and White securing a total of 19 points, including a hard fought 11-9 setback in the third against Juan Jose Torres.
Cormac Sullivan also was able to hit double-digits versus Oscar Okonkwo racking up 13 points in his defeat.

Inside the Match
Smythe at the top of the ladder exchanged the opening two games with Kyle Broadhurst, before taking games three (11-6) and four (11-7) to earn the match. Two spots down Krizek battled Aditya Chandani to the wire in three straight games, but fell short. Sullivan was another Devil who reached double-digit points scored racking up 20 in a three game defeat to Jamie Stait at six. Ortiz (7th) pushed Akshat Agarwal beyond 11 points in two games, while Vollmer V did that once to David Vahlsing Jr. However, both matches went the way of the Diplomats in consecutive games.Â

Inside the Match
At the number one spot, Smythe pushed Wenqing Tang through five tightly contested games, but ultimately it was Tang who claimed a 13-11 win in the deciding fifth. Krizek slotted on the three line took Alexander Orr through three very competitive games, unfortunately Orr was able to hang on in each each game for the win. Sullivan also reached double-digits in his third game with Avinash Uppuluri dropping a 14-12 battle in the third allowing the Mids to pick up another win.
