Devils Push #3 Blue Jays Hard, but Fall in Regular Season Finale

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson women's basketball team got double-digits on Saturday afternoon from the group of Mia Chapman, Emma Landes, Lizzie McGrath and Victoria Zerbe, but it was not enough as the Red and White were tripped up by the third-ranked Johns Hopkins University 71-54 inside the Kline Center.

First Quarter
  • Dickinson used the opening three minutes to grab a 6-0 lead on buckets from Chapman, McGrath and Zerbe.
  • Hopkins responded with seven straight courtesy of Emily Collins, Beth Corelli, Kendall Dunham and Stephanie Theodossakos to take their first advantage of the day at 7-6 with 6:38 gone.
  • The frame ended with all the momentum on the Devils side as four points for Emma Landes, two from Addison Cadwell and a solo foul shot stuck by Chapman capped a 7-0 sprint to close out making it 13-7 at the end of one.
Second Quarter
  • The run extended to 15-0 during the first 2:29 with buckets from Chapman, Landes and McGrath pushing the gap to 21-7.
  • An unassisted jumper for Dunham jump started a 15-2 outburst from Johns Hopkins that ended on a free throw by Faith Williamson which brought the visitors to within 23-22 at the 6:14 mark.
  • After a bit of a cold stretch, McGrath knocked down a triple in transition to make it 26-22 but six in a row between Grace Soltes and Williamson put the Jays in front 28-26 going into the break.
Third Quarter
  • Dickinson brought the Kline Center crowd to their feet right out of the locker room with baskets by Chapman, McGrath and Zerbe reclaiming the lead for the Devils at 35-30.
  • A trey knocked down by McGrath and foul shot for Zerbe was the only DC points during a 9-4 charge from Hopkins as they pulled level 39-39 with 3:49 to play.
  • Five points tallied by Jelena Subasic helped the Devils to take a 44-41 advantage, but Macie Feldman, Collins and Dunham came back with eight consecutive points to jump ahead 49-44.
  • However, a layup for Chapman off a nice dish from McGrath attempted to bring the energy back to the Red and White making it 49-46.
Fourth Quarter
  • Early buckets finished off by Chapman and Landes erased the deficit tying things up at 51-51.
  • Unfortunately for Dickinson, that was when the Jays turned up the defensive pressure using a full-court press to aid a 20-3 romp over the remaining 8:24 to close out the 71-54 final.
