Devils Outsted From CC Playoffs in First Round by Green Terror

CARLISLE, Pa. - The fourth-seeded Dickinson women's basketball team held a one-point lead after one quarter on Tuesday night in the First Round of the Centennial Conference Tournament against the visiting fifth-seeded McDaniel College. Unfortunately for the Red and White, they had no answer for the size of the Green Terror throughout the remainder of the game as they were out-rebounded 46-24 en route to a 51-38 setback in front of a rowdy and jam-packed Kline Center.

First Quarter
  • Things began well for the Devils as layups for Mia Chapman and Victoria Zerbe along with a triple by Lizzie McGrath made it 7-3 inside of three minutes gone.
  • The two sides combined to miss the next four shots, before back-to-back layups from Raegan Lenz knotted the score at 7-7 with 5:13 off the clock.
  • Dickinson responded by collecting seven of the next eight points courtesy of Clare Cronley, Esther Nlebemuo and Zerbe to reclaim a 14-8 advantage.
  • However, a trey knocked down by Kendra Mason along with a layup for Lauren Cavoli trimmed the gap to 14-13 heading to the second.
Second Quarter
  • A jumper stuck by McGrath opened the period, but then three straight offensive rebounds from McDaniel ultimately led to a basket for Cavoli to leave DC ahead by one (16-15).
  • Two foul shots hit by Chapman pushed it to 18-15, but then the following two minutes went by scoreless until Lenz tipped home and added a free throw following a Cavoli miss at the rim.
  • A trey hit out of the corner by Elaina Beckett set off a 7-2 charge for the visitors to jump ahead 25-20. However, McGrath would go "coast to coast" prior to the buzzer trimming the deficit to 25-22.
Third Quarter
  • Dickinson got themselves right back into the game coming out of the break as Zerbe split a pair at the charity line and McGrath cashed in from deep to take a 26-25 edge not even a minute gone.
  • Beckett and Lenz picked up the next three points thanks in large part to three offensive rebounds being able to keep possessions alive.
  • Zerbe converted a layup in the lane to level the contest back up, but an 8-1 run for the Green Terror gave the guests a 36-29 advantage with ten minutes left.
Fourth Quarter
  • Emma Landes picked up an early layup to give DC some energy. Unfortunately, Jordan McLean, Teya McConnaha and Beckett responded with six consecutive points to extend the lead to double-digits (42-31) still with seven minutes left.
  • McGrath buried another triple and Zerbe chipped in a layup to bring the crowd to their feet at 42-36 with 3:33 gone.
  • That would be as close as the Devils would get the rest of the game as McDaniel ended the game with a 9-2 romp to finish off the 51-38 win.
