Devils Come Up Just Short Against Bullets in Marathon Match

CARLISLE, Pa. - When the Dickinson men's tennis team began their conference matchup with rival Gettysburg College on Tuesday afternoon at the Hays Tennis Courts no body would have thought that it would take until Friday to sort out a winner. However, that was exactly what happened as weather brought a halt to play Tuesday with the Devils on top 2-0. Play was then resumed on Thursday with the Bullets winning three of the four singles matches contested on that day to tie the score at 3-3, which forced the decisive match this afternoon with the visitors taking it to rally back for the 4-3 win.

Doubles (DEVILS 2-1 | Count as one point in team score)
Things began with Teo Burgess and Matt Porreca posting a 6-0 shutout at one over Lucas Bogle and Sandro Buskhrikidze. Dickinson then answered at the three line as Ben Cioladis and Jack Weaver picked up a 6-3 victory. The point came down to the number two spot where Drew Allen and David Daraban had just enough to edge out Owen Kutlu-Spencer Pompian (7-5).

Singles (Bullets 4-2)
Bogle gave DC the 2-0 edge with a 6-4, 6-2 straight set win against Connor McPartland at one. That was the final match to be played on Tuesday as lightning and rain pushed the resumption of the match to Thursday. When the action picked back up Kutlu got Gettysburg their first point by knocking off Cioladis on the six line (7-5, 6-3). The Red and White moved to within one point of clinching the match when Buskhrikidze (3rd) defeated Pompian 6-4, 7-6 (7-6 tiebreak). Gettysburg worked all the way back to 3-3 thanks to a pair of three sets wins by Porreca and Burgess over Allen (4th) and Daraban (2nd). That forced the deciding match on Friday afternoon in the fifth flight between Ben O'Connor-Skloot and Weaver. Unfortunately for the Devils, O'Connor-Skloot recorded identical 6-2, 6-2 set wins to complete the comeback.
