NEWVILLE, Pa. — The Dickinson women's cross country team hosted the annual Dickinson Long-Short Invitational Saturday at Big Spring High School in Newville, Pa., with the Red Devils earning second place in the combined team standings across the 4K and 6K races. The race marked the final home meet for long time head coach Don Nichter as he will retire at the conclusion of the season after spending 40-plus years at Dickinson.
 
4K Race
Liza Barbash, who set the school record in the 4K at last year's meet, led the way for the Red Devils in the women's 4K, placing third overall with an impressive time of 14:51.8. Tess Nicholas followed in 14th place with a time of 15:54.0, recording a significant personal best after finishing in 16:31.1 at the Galen Piper Invitational earlier this month. Marley Kurey and Devon Culberson finished 21st and 24th, respectively, crossing the line in 16:28.9 and 16:35.3. Margaret Randolph rounded out Dickinson's top five with a 35th-place finish in 17:31.3. The Red Devils totaled 32 points to finish third in the 4K team standings in a field of 10 teams and 63 runners.

6K Race
Earlier in the morning, Meghan Higgins-Haas led the way for Dickinson in the women's 6K, earning a second-place finish with a time of 22:33.2. Meghan McGinnis followed in 21st place with a time of 23:47.6. Classmates Roma Diak and Alicia MacMillan finished 24th and 32nd, respectively, crossing the line in 24:12.8 and 24:30.3. Breaana Franchak rounded out Dickinson's top five with a 40th-place finish in 24:57.8. The performances propelled the Red Devils to a third-place finish in the 6K team standings with 36 points in a field of eight teams and 71 runners.

Dickinson's combined team score was enough to secure second place overall in this year's combined team standings.

Looking Ahead
The Red Devils will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Hornet Harrier 6K in Winchester, Va. The race is scheduled for a 10:15 a.m. start at Kernstown Battlefield.
