(Carlisle, Pa.) - The Dickinson
College men's soccer team used a total team effort to hold off
McDaniel for a 3-2 win on Wednesday night. |
Sophomore Bryan Gilmartin (Branchburg, N.J./St.
Joseph's)scored a pair of goals to lead the attack. He put
the Devils on the board in the 18th minute with assists
from David Lister (Dallas,
Texas/Greenhill) and Thomas Parkinson
(Westfield, N.J./Westfield).
A failed clear led to an own goal that put Dickinson up 2-0 with
just over 29 minutes remaining in the game. The Green Terror
regrouped and cut the deficit to a goal as Adam Sommers scored on
an assist from Matthew Gillen with 21 minutes left in
regulation.
First-year Nicolas Tierno (Sicklerville,
N.J./Timber Creek Regional) made a great move to beat
the defense and feed Gilmartin for his second goal of the game with
8:18 on the clock.
McDaniel kept pressing and pulled within one again after Marrio
Davis broke through and scored with just under seven minutes to go
in the contest.
The Green Terror had a few more quality chances to force
overtime. They saw two shots slip just outside the post in the
final four minutes.
Robert Hollasch made four saves in goal for McDaniel (7-8-1,
3-4-1).
Cody Hickok (Redding, Conn./Joel
Barlow) made five saves on the night
while James VanMeerbeke (Gettysburg,
Pa./Gettysburg) came on to make some strong plays in
the final 20 minutes and secure the win.
Matt Edgar (Vineland,
N.J./Vineland) anchored a solid effort defensively
and in the midfield.
The Red Devils improve to 12-3-1 overall and 6-2 in the
Centennial Conference. They host Franklin & Marshall at 1:00 on
Saturday afternoon
