(Carlisle, Pa.) - The Dickinson
College men's basketball team turned in another strong performance,
but fell to visiting Washington College, 59-55 on Tuesday
night. |
The teams traded leads in the first half with the margin never
reaching more than five points. Washington closed out the half with
a 10-4 run to hold a 29-28 advantage at intermission.
Dickinson opened the second with an 11-2 run for the biggest
lead of the game at 39-31. Andrew Chambers (Williamsport, Md./St.
Maria Goretti) dished out an assist and scored three straight
baskets to put Washington back in front, 40-39, with 13:41
remaining in the game.
The Shoremen stretched the lead to seven and held a 55-48
advantage with 4:05 on the clock. Chris Harrington
(Cheverly, Md./Georgetown Prep) scored back-to-back
and Matt Dolan (Chalfont, Pa./St. Joe's
Prep) hit a free throw to pull the Devils within a
basket, 55-53, with just over a minute in regulation.
Dickinson fouled to put Kevin Breslin (Hagerstown, Md/St. Maria
Goretti) on the line with 31 seconds to play. He hit one to make
the score, 56-53. Chris Barsanti (Hummelstown,
Pa./Tilton School)sank a pair of free throws to pull the
Devils within a point.
Breslin was fouled and converted both attempts this time,
putting Washington in front, 58-55, with 14 seconds remaining. The
Devils had one last attempt, but the shot was off the mark.
Chambers closed out the game with another free throw for the final
of 59-55.
Barsanti finished the night with a game-high 20 points, hitting
8-of-8 free throws. Dolan recorded another double-double with 16
points and 13 rebounds, hitting 6-of-7 foul shots.
Chambers led Washington (5-5, 3-3) with 17 points and seven
rebounds. Breslin finished with 15 points and six rebounds.
The Red Devils slip to 0-11 overall and 0-6 in the Centennial
Conference. They travel to Swarthmore College for a 7:00
tip-off.
