Dickinson College men's basketball team made a late run at
Swarthmore, but came up short, 59-54. |
Swarthmore jumped out to an early 12-4 lead before the Devils
regrouped to tie the game at 14. The Garnet stretched the lead to
seven on two occasions before the end of the half. Dickinson closed
the gap to 30-27 at the break.
The Garnet built the lead back to 14 and led 42-28 with 12:37
remaining in the game. Matt Dolan (Chalfont, Pa./St.
Joe's Prep)converted a three-point play to cap a 14-4 run
and pull the Devils with four at 46-42.
Trevor Kenny (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock
South) cut the deficit to two with a lay-up at the
6:33 mark. First-year Chris Barsanti (Hummelstown,
Pa./Tilton School) pulled the Devils within a basket
with just 58 seconds to play.
A Jordan Martinez free throw gave the Garnet a 57-54 lead with
29 seconds on the clock. Kenny rebounded the miss on the second
shot. The Devils put up two shots but the second went out of bounds
to Washington.
The Devils were forced to foul and Matt Allen hit both free
throws with just three seconds to play for the final of 59-54.
Will Gates and Eugene Prymak each scored 12 points to lead
Swarthmore (3-11, 2-5).
Kenny led the Red Devils with a game-high 19 points, controlling
five rebounds. Dolan went 7-for-7 from the free throw line, scoring
18 points and grabbing nine rebounds. Barsanti finished with 10
points and four assists.
The Red Devils slip to 0-12 on the season and 0-7 in the
Centennial Conference. They travel to Johns Hopkins for a 3:00
start on Saturday.
