(Carlisle, Pa.) - The Dickinson
College men's basketball team made a strong run down the stretch,
but couldn't catch visiting Haverford, falling 61-53. |
The Red Devils struck first and led through the first half of
the opening period. The 'Fords erased a five-point deficit and
closed out the half with a 6-1 run to lead 25-20 at the break.
Ian Goldberg hit a three-pointer to start the second half for
Haverford. That triggered a run that put the 'Fords in front,
37-28, with 12:08 remaining in the game.
The Devils trailed by nine at the seven minute mark before a
13-4 run pulled them even at 49-49 with 2:23 left to play.
Chris Barsanti (Hummelstown, Pa./Tilton
School) tied the game, and put the Devils in front
50-49 with a pair of free throws to close out the run.
Haverford drained a three-pointer before Chris
Heine (Spring Lake, N.J./St. Rose) answered with his
fifth triple of the game to put the Devils in front, 53-52.
Goldberg hit another three-pointer to make the score, 55-53.
Following a Devil miss, they were forced to put Haverford on the
line. They hit six straight free throws in the final 30 seconds to
secure the win.
Heine led the way for Dickinson with a career-high five
three-pointers for 16 points. He hit 5-of-8 shots, controlled five
rebounds and blocked a pair of shots.
Trevor Kenny (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock
South) hit 5-of-7 shots for 12 points, grabbing six
rebounds.
Matt Dolan (Chalfont, Pa./St. Joe's
Prep) was just shy of a double-double with nine
points and eight rebounds. He added a pair of blocks and made three
steals. Doug Jakiela (Wayne,
Pa./Conestoga) added eight rebounds as well.
Goldberg led Haverford (6-12, 4-8) with 19 points while Sam
Permutt tallied 16 points, nine rebounds and a pair of blocked
shots.
The Red Devils travel to McDaniel College on Wednesday to face
the Green Terror at 8:00 pm.
