College men's basketball team suffered a 90-70 setback to Ursinus
College in its return to action on Wednesday night. |
Nine players reached double-figures on the night as the teams
combined for 70 free attempts. Dickinson held an early lead and
played even with the Bears for the better part of the first
half.
Ursinus used an 18-9 run to stretch a two-point advantage to 11
at the 5:02 mark. The Bears scored 16 points (16-for-21) on free
throws to take a 48-37 lead at the break.
Ursinus opened the lead to 60-44 in the opening four minutes of
the second half. Dickinson answered with a 10-0 run behind a pair
of Gavin Allen (Hackettstown, N.J./Blair
Academy) three-pointers.
The Devils were within seven at the midway point of second half.
Ursinus continued to build on that lead, converting 17-of-19 free
throws in the second half.
First-year John Ward (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) led all scorers
with 21 points, shooting 9-for-10 from the line and 6-for-8 from
the field. Remy Cousart (Philadelphia, Pa./Holy Ghost Prep) added
20 points and five assists, sinking 15-of-17 from the stripe.
Junior Chris Harrington (Cheverly, Md./Georgetown
Prep) led Dickinson with 17 points, shooting 4-of-5
from the line and 3-for-5 from three-point land.
First-year Chris Barsanti (Hummelstown, Pa./Tilton
School) scored 14 points and had three assists.
Chris Heine (Spring Lake, N.J./St.
Rose) chipped in with 12 points while Allen finished
with 11 on the night. Junior Matt Dolan (Chalfont,
Pa./St. Joe's Prep) controlled a team-best nine
rebounds and went 6-for-8 from the line.
The Red Devils slip to 0-9 overall and 0-4 in the Centennial
Conference. They travel to Haverford College on Saturday for a 2:00
tip-off.
