(Carlisle, Pa.)The Dickinson College women's soccer team
pulled-off a 1-0 win in double-overtime to beat visiting Muhlenberg
College in Centennial Conference play Saturday afternoon.
For the second week in a row, first-year player Samantha
Friday (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional) scored
the game winning goal, this week's goal coming two minutes in to
the second overtime. The game-winner came on the heels of
well-placed corner kick by sophomore Ashley
Fields (Far Hills, N.J./Ridge). Senior Ashley
Kunkle (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) and sophomore sister
Marissa
Kunkle (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) each fired off a shot
before Friday hit net.
It was a hard fought battle for the Red Devils, who dominated
the field most of the game, forcing ten corners on the day. The
defense played strong for the first half, holding the Mules to only
one corner kick. In the second half, Muhlenberg came back on
offense, forcing six corners.
Sophomore Casey Reilly
(Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) turned in another strong
performance defensively, in front of classmate goalkeeper
Annie
Weichert (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) had a superb outing,
playing all 110 minutes and saving nine shots.
On the opposite end, Michelle Toher had a great outing as well.
She also played all 110 minutes, and made eight saves on the day as
Muhlenberg drops to 2-5-2 overall and 2-1 in the CC.
Next up, the Red Devils remain at home to battle Juniata College
on Wednesday at 6:30 pm.
