(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College women's soccer
team struck twice in a span of just 26 seconds en route to a 3-0
win over Juniata on Wednesday night. Junior midfielder Genevieve
Olson (Quincy, Mass./Thayer Academy) assisted the
Devils' first goal and tacked on a pair of goals to lead the way
for Dickinson.
Olson made a great pass to sophomore Marissa
Kunkle (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) who would set-up
sister Ashley
Kunkle (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) to put the Devils on
the board in the 71st minute. The Devils would quickly
find themselves with a 2-0 lead as Olson found the net off an
assist from sophomore Hannah
Richardson (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase)
just 26 seconds later for the second goal of the day.
The one-two punch was just shy of the school record for fastest
consecutive goals. Jess Griggs and Alyssa Carlow scored twice
against DeSales University in a span of 19 seconds in 2003.
Olson added another insurance goal, finishing an assist from
first-year Samantha
Friday (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional) in the
80th minute to close out the scoring for the game.
The entire second half was played in a downpour as the Devils
tried to maintain possession with short, quick passes. The Devils
held a 13-0 advantage in shots in the second half, finishing the
game with a 22-3 edge in that category. The Devils also forced five
corners while not allowing any on the defensive end.
Sophomore goalkeeper Annie
Weichert (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) made three saves and
controlled everything that came her way. She would share the
shutout with first-year Edie Riggs
(Frederick, Md./Linganore), who came on for the final
seven minutes.
Kristen Penska made six saves in goal for Juniata as they slip
to 7-4 on the season.
The Red Devils improve to 7-2-1 overall. They are off this
weekend before traveling to Susquehanna University for a 7:00 pm
match on Monday night.
