Dolan Double-Double Leads Devils Past Garnet 52-46

(Carlisle, Pa,) - The Dickinson College men's basketball team continues to play well down the stretch, posting a 52-46 win over visiting Swarthmore College on Saturday.

 

Junior forward Matt Dolan (Chalfont, Pa./St. Joe's Prep) had a monster afternoon with his sixth double-double of the season. He tallied game-highs of 16 points and 14 rebounds, adding three blocked shots and a pair of steals.

 

The teams played even early before the Devils went on a 13-4 run to take an eight point lead, 17-9, with 10:28 to play in the half.

 

The Garnet rallied to tie and pulled in front 25-21 at halftime. After the break, Dickinson quickly tied the game in the opening two minutes of the second half.

 

The teams would both struggle offensively as they remained knotted at 31-31 midway through the half. Chris Harrington (Cheverly, Md./Georgetown Prep) sank a three-pointer to give the Devils the lead at the 11:16 mark.

 

Dolan later hit four straight free throws to put the Devils in front, 42-36, with 7:03 remaining. The Garnet pulled within a basket but Dolan would answer with a lay-up and a steal that would give Dickinson a 46-40 lead with just over two minutes to play in the game.

 

Senior Matt Allen (Seattle, Wash./Lakeside) hit a three-pointer to cut the lead in half. He answered a pair of Dolan free throws with another three-pointer to make the score 48-46 with 23 seconds on the clock.

 

Dolan hit four more free throws down the stretch to secure the win for the Red Devils.

 

First-year Chris Barsanti (Hummelstown, Pa./Tilton School) hit 4-of-6 shots for 11 points and two assists. Junior Trevor Kenny (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South) went 4-for-7 from the field, adding nine points. Harrington added five points and five rebounds.

 

Will Gates (Willseyville, N.Y./Candor) led Swarthmore (5-17, 4-11) with 14 points and nine rebounds.

 

The Red Devils (4-17, 4-12) travel to Gettysburg College on Wednesday night for an 8:00 tip-off.
