Dickinson College baseball team is currently 3-8 on the season as
the Red Devils wrap up their spring break tour on Friday. The Red
Devils struggled early in the week before picking up a win over
Simpson College on Thursday. |
The Devils suffered a pair of losses to the College of Brockport
at the beginning of the week, falling 13-6 and 10-4.
Junior Mike Schuster (Malvern, Pa./Great
Valley) led the Devils, going 4-for-4 with a double,
two RBIs and two runs scored in the opener. He went 2-for-3 in the
nightcap.
Classmate Evan Farha (Potomac,
Md./Churchill) had a solid day at the plate as well,
driving in three runs with a double and a single in game one. He
went 2-for-3 with a triple and a run in game two.
Sophomore Garrett Horan (Providence, R.I./Moses
Brown)recorded five strikeouts in four innings of work in
the nightcap.
Augsburg College swept a twin-bill from the Devils on Monday,
claiming the opener, 14-0, and holding on for a 3-2 win in game
two.
The Auggies capitalized on three unearned runs in the bottom of
the first inning and tacked on eight in a big fifth inning to take
control in game one. Kristofer Ozga and Kyle Austin combined to
hold the Devils to just three hits.
Senior Alex Glasenapp surrendered just three hits in game two
for Augsburg, but had his work cut out for him on the way to a 3-2
victory.
Sophomore Tyler Rosa' (Carmel by the Sea,
Calif./Stevenson School) scored both Devil runs,
reaching on a walk in the fifth and after being hit by a pitch in
the seventh.
Matt Tuneski (Waterford,
Conn./Waterford) drove in Rosa' in the fifth
and Evan Hennessy (Langhorne,
Pa./Neshaminy) added an RBI in the seventh before the
Auggies were able to close out the game for a 3-2 win.
Sophomore Jordan Kaufman (Somerset, Pa./Somerset
Area)added the third hit for Dickinson while also reaching
on an error in the fifth to put Rosa' in scoring position.
The Red Devils found some offense late in a single tilt with
Macalaster College, scoring 15 runs. The Scots had hot bats as
well, however, posting a 22-15 win behind a 13-run effort in the
third inning.
The Red Devils scored four runs in both the fifth and sixth
innings, adding six more in the seventh. Rosa' led the Devils at
the plate, going 3-for-5 with six RBIs, including a two-run double
and a three-run homerun.
Tuneski double twice, scoring twice on the day while Kaufman
went 2-for-2. Bart Marchant (Lakeville,
Conn./Hotchkiss) and first-year Steve
Anzalone (Westfield, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) each added
RBI doubles. Senior Brett Friedman (Port Washington,
N.Y./Paul D. Schreiber) came on in relief, recording
four strikeouts in three innings. Tuneski added a pair of
strikeouts in two innings of work as well.
Springfield College rallied past the Red Devils, 12-11, on
Tuesday afternoon as Dickinson slipped to 2-7 on the season. The
Pride pushed across three runs in the top of the eighth to take an
11-8 lead, but the Red Devils answered to tie the game in the
bottom of the inning.
Junior outfielder John Schmaltz singled in a run in the top of
the ninth and sophomore Adam DeFilice came in to earn the save for
Springfield.
On Thursday the Devils split a double-header with Simpson
College. The Storm won the opener, 19-9, despite some strong
performances at the plate for Dickinson.
Sophomore Ben Sciambi (Port Monmouth,
N.J./Ridge) went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs
and two runs scored. First-yearJames Santoro (Freehold,
N.J./St. Rose) drove in two runs behind three hits,
scoring twice with a double and a stolen base.
Marchant and sophomore Mike Shimkin (Solebury,
Pa./Princeton Day) each went 2-for-4 on the
afternoon. Shimkin added two RBIs, a double and a run scored while
Marchant scored, doubled, drove in a run and stole a base.
The Devils added one to the win column, posting a 7-6 win in the
nightcap. Horan earned the win on the mound, allowing four hits and
two earned runs in the win. He added six strikeouts while allowing
just one walk. Friedman earned the save, coming on in relief.
Marchant went 2-for-4 with a double, triple and an RBI. Tuneski
drove in two runs and scored twice with a double while Rosa and
Farha each went 2-for-4. Sciambi scored twice, doubled and added an
RBI.
The Red Devils stand at 3-8 overall. They close out the week
with games against Minot College and a Macalaster on Friday.
