| (Carlisle, Pa.) - The Dickinson
College baseball team struck early and held off a late rally to
defeat visiting Penn State Harrisburg, 9-8, on Tuesday
afternoon. |
Tyler Rosa (Carmel by the Sea, Calif./Stevenson
School)doubled and scored in the second inning to put the
Devils on the board. He would come around again in the third as
part of a five-run rally, highlighted by a bases clearing triple
from Ben Sciambi (Port Monmouth,
N.J./Ridge).
The Lions pushed across two in the top of the
fifth. Garrett Horan (Providence, R.I./Moses
Brown) doubled and was driven in by Sciambi to answer
in the bottom half of the inning.
Penn State tacked on a pair in the sixth to make the score, 7-4.
Horan tripled and scored in the seventh, along
with Evan Farha (Potomac,
Md./Churchill) to stretch the lead to 9-4.
The Lions would make things interesting, capitalizing on three
Red Devil errors to pull within a run at 9-8 in the eighth
inning.
The Devils would hold on as Andrew Mauro
(Washington, D.C./Mercersburg) came on to close and
earn the save. Andrew Sterling (Houston,
Texas/Episcopal) went 5.1 innings to earn the win
while Justin Williams (Fory Myers,
Fla./Hotchkiss) also pitched well in relief.
Sciambi finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs while Rosa'
and Matt Tuneski (Waterford,
Conn./Waterford) each drove in a pair of runs. Horan
scored three runs on the day and Mike Schuster
(Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) went 2-for-4 with a
walk.
The Red Devils (7-23) travel to Shenandoah University on
Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
