(Carlisle, Pa.) - The Dickinson
College women's soccer team struck first but visiting Swarthmore
answered with a pair of goals to post a 2-1 Centennial Conference
win here on Saturday.
First-year Samantha
Friday (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional) put
the Devils up 1-0, scoring on an assist from sophomore Hannah
Richardson (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) in
the 33rd minute.
The Garnet tied the game with just 2:26 to play in the first
half when Alexa Ross finished an assist from Megan Colombo.
The Red Devils created some strong scoring opportunities
throughout the game. Sophomore Marissa
Kunkle (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) blasted a shot off
the cross bar in the first half and Richardson rang the bell,
hitting the post late in the game.
Swarthmore capitalized in transition, countering a Dickinson
attack, going full field with Emily Coleman finding the net with an
assist from Hannah Purkey in the 77th minute.
The Devils continued to battle and had some quality chances late
in the game but could not tally the equalizer.
Annie
Weichert (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) turned in a strong
performance in goal for Dickinson, stopping five shots. Marie
Mutryn also played well in goal for the Garnet (2-2, 1-0), making
nine saves.
The Red Devils slip to 1-1-1 overall and 0-1 in the Centennial
Conference. They travel to York College on Wednesday for a 4:30
start.
