(Carlisle, Pa.) - Dickinson College and Muhlenberg battled to a
1-1 tie in Centennial Conference men's soccer action on Wednesday
evening. The Red Devils struck first in the 22nd minute and held
the lead until the Mules answered in the 53rd to even the
score.
The Red Devils controlled play for much of the first half,
creating some quality scoring chances. The Mules held strong until
first-year Derek
Kachadurian (Weston, Mass./Weston) fed the ball to
senior Dale Rodman
(Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) who found the back of the net
to put Dickinson in front 1-0, 21:43 into the game.
Muhlenberg came out of halftime with a little more life,
looking for the equalizer. The Devils were able to keep the Mule
attack at bay until the 53rd minute. Junior Cody Antonini collected
a ball on the right side as it deflected off a Dickinson
defender and punched it in to tie the game with 37 minutes
remaining in the contest.
The Devils continued to press, creating more chances but were
unable to net the game-winner, forcing overtime. First-year
Javier Mena
(San Salvador, El Salvador/American School of El Salvador)
broke through the defense in the first overtime, but his shot went
high of the goal. Rodman had a great chance in the second extra
period on a beautifully executed cross from Nicolas
Tierno (Sicklerville, N.J./Timber Creek Regional). His
shot slipped just outside the right post.
Cody Hickok
(Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) turned in another strong
performance in goal, making six saves on the night. Jason Daniels
played solid as well for the Mules, stopping 12 shots.
The Devils held a 27-13 advantage in shots while forcing 12
corners in the game and allowing just two on the night.
The Mules move to 5-0-3 overall and 1-0-2 in the Centennial
Conference. The Red Devils are 5-2-2 and 1-1-1 in the CC. Dickinson
is home again on Saturday, hosting Ursinus College at 3:30 pm.
