Haverford Holds Off Devils 67-65

(Haverford, Pa.) - The Dickinson College men's basketball team rallied from a 10 point deficit but suffered a tough loss at Haverford, falling 67-65 on Saturday.

 

The Red Devils trailed by 10 midway through the first half but battled back to cut the margin to 34-31 at halftime. Trailing 32-23 with 2:46 remaining, the Devils closed out the half with an 8-2 run, triggered by back-to-back three-pointer field-goals from first-year Adam Honig (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) and junior Chris Heine (Spring Lake, N.J./St. Rose).

 

Haverford stretched the lead to double-digits in the opening five minutes of the second half, leading 44-34 with 15:24 remaining in the game. The Devils rallied again, pulling within a field-goal as sophomore Logan Furr (Sharon, Mass./Beaver Country Day) drained back-to-back three-pointers to make the score, 47-45.

 

The Devils cut the deficit to one on a Brian Gerney (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) three-pointer and would later take the lead on a pair of Chris Barsanti (Hummelstown, Pa./Tilton School) free throws at the 8:03 mark.

 

Gerney later knocked-down a three-pointer to knot the game at 65-65 with 1:11 remaining in regulation. The teams traded possessions before Bo Friddell converted a fast-break lay-up with six seconds on the clock. The 'Fords held on the defensive end to secure the win, 67-65.

 

Sam Permutt led Haverford (7-5, 4-2 CC) with a double-double, scoring 17 points and controlling 10 rebounds.

 

Honig led the Devils with 13 points, adding a pair of assists and two steals. First-year Tucker Landy (Durham, Conn./Xavier) tallied 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting, grabbing six rebounds. Matt Dolan (Chalfont, Pa./St. Joe's Prep) was just shy of a double-double with 10 rebounds and nine points. Sophomore Doug Jakiela (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) chipped in with seven rebounds.

 

The Red Devils hit 10 three-pointers on the afternoon and hit 11-of-15 (73.3%) free throws. They slip to 6-7 overall and 4-2 in the Centennial Conference. They travel to Washington College on Thursday for an 8:00 tip-off.
