(Carlisle, Pa.) – Junior Evan Tinter slipped a shot that was deflected by a Red Devil defender into the net in the 105th minute to break a scoreless tie and lead Gettysburg to a 1-0 double-overtime win over host Dickinson on Saturday.
Andrew McLane played a ball into the right corner of the penalty area where Tinter looked to cross the ball in front of the net. The ball found its way into the net as the Devils looked to clear, leading to an own goal and the their first setback in conference play.
The match saw 37 fouls, preventing either team from gaining much rhythm throughout most of the contest. Both teams had minimal, but quality chances to score in regulation. Strong play from both defenses and goaltenders kept any goals from going up on the board.
Junior Nicolas Tierno (Sicklerville, N.J./Timber Creek Regional) had a great chance with a strong shot in the second half, but Connor Darrell pulled in the save.
The Bullets held a modest 14-8 advantage in shots while each team had four corner kick opportunities. Junior Cody Hickok (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) had a busy day in the nets, making seven saves on the day.
The Bullets improve to 5-3-1 overall and move into first with a 3-0-1 mark in the Centennial Conference. The Red Devils slip to 6-3-2 overall and 3-1 in conference play. Dickinson travels to Misericordia on Wednesday night for a 7:00 pm kick-off.
