(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College women's soccer team was forced from its home grass to the turf of Biddle Field, but adjusted just fine, posting a 4-0 win over visiting Washington College on Friday afternoon.
The Shorewomen came out strong, challenging the Devils with a pair of shots early in the contest. The Red Devils settled in and would break through the defense in the 15th minute as sophomore Rosalin Savoie (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) found the back of the net, finishing an assist from junior Marissa Kunkle (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge).
Kunkle would add another assist, just over two minutes later, this time finding first-year Julia Thayer (Washington , D.C./Maret School) to put the Devils in front, 2-0, with 28:22 remaining in the half. Thayer struck again, right after intermission, netting her team-high eighth goal of the season.
Classmate Allie Young (New Canaan, Conn./St. Luke's) tallied the assist, stretching the Devil lead to 3-0, just 1:21 into the second half. The Devils would close out the scoring in the 51st minute. Junior Ashley Fields (Far Hills, N.J./Ridge) slipped one in from the right corner for the final of 4-0.
The Red Devils held the Shorewomen to just three shots on the afternoon, holding a 3-1 advantage in corners. The Washington defense did catch the Devils offsides on five occasions, holding Dickinson to just seven shots.
Tori Ripple made a pair of saves in just under 70 minutes of action for Washington (2-9-1, 0-5-1). Mallory KahnJohnston came on for the final 20 minutes, but did not face a shot.
Junior Annie Weichert (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) shared the shutout with first-years Liz Cassin (Summit, N.J./Summit) and Megan Stekla (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands).
The Red Devils record their ninth shutout of the season, holding opponents scoreless over the past five contests. They improve to 9-3-1 overall and 5-2 in the Centennial Conference. Dickinson travels to Johns Hopkins on Wednesday for a 7:00 pm kick-off with the Blue Jays.
