(Bryn Mawr, Pa.) – The Dickinson College women's volleyball kept every set close, but dropped a 3-0 decision at Bryn Mawr on Thursday night. The Owls held off the Devils for a three-set win, posting scores of 25-19, 25-21, 25-22.
The Owls jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the opening set and stretched the margin to 21-14. The Devils tried to rally, scoring three straight points to pull within 24-19.
Katie Merrill led Bryn Mawr to a 9-3 lead in the second set before the Devils answered to cut the deficit to 13-9. The Devils rallied from being down, 22-12 and 24-15 to close the gap to 24-21 before the Owls closed out the set.
The third set was back-and-forth right from the beginning, leading to a 12-12 deadlock. The Devils pulled in front, 16-13 before the Owls answered with a 6-0 run. Dickinson rallied once more, cutting a 24-17 lead down to 24-22 behind an ace from Samantha Iazzetta (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) and two kills from Jessie Shaffner (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park).
Senior Liz Norris (Southbury, Conn./Hotchkiss School) led the Devils with 10 kills, 12 digs, a block and an ace. Iazzetta tallied six kills, nine digs, two aces and a block.
Sophomore setter Grace Morgan (York, Pa./York Suburban) handed out 24 assists, adding five digs and a block. Shaffner finished with six kills and five digs.
The Owls improve to 10-16 overall and 4-6 in the Centennial Conference. The Red Devils slip to 3-18 and 1-8. Dickinson travels to Lancaster on Saturday to face Franklin & Marshall at 11:00 am.
