(Haverford, Pa.) – The Dickinson College men's soccer team traded goals with Haverford on Sunday, but came up short in the end, falling 3-2.
The Red Devils went on the board first. Sophomore Javier Mena (San Salvador, El Salvador/The American School) put the Devils in front 1-0, scoring on an assist from classmate Derek Kachadurian (Weston, Mass./Weston) in the ninth minute.
The 'Fords answered quickly, knotting the game just 1:45 later on a goal by Alejandro Rettig y Martinez. Dan Garfing was credited with the assist with just under 35 minutes remaining in the half.
The score would remain tied until Rettig y Martinez struck again with 30:54 remaining in the game, putting Haverford in front, 2-1.
It took the Red Devils a little over three minutes to answer. Mena netted his second of the afternoon, this time off an assist from first-year Nate Latshaw (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) with 27:36 remaining in regulation.
Haverford took the lead once again, pulling in front on the first goal of the season for Nikko Giannasca. He finished an assist from Tyler Freeman with 16:51 left to play.
The 'Fords would hold, posting a 3-2 win to improve to 4-6-1 overall and 1-4-0 in the Centennial Conference. The Red Devils slip to 6-4-2 on the season and 3-2 in the CC.
Junior Cody Hickok (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) made a pair of saves as each team recorded 13 shots on the afternoon. Nick Kahn made six saves in goal for Haverford. The 'Fords held a 6-4 advantage in corners.
The Red Devils travel to Baltimore on October 15th to face Johns Hopkins University at 4:00 pm.
