Devils Move to Second in CC, Top Shoremen 82-68

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College men's basketball team turned in another strong performance on Saturday, posting an 82-68 win over Washington College. The Red Devils held a 39-33 advantage at the break and outscored the Shoremen, 43-35, in the second half.

 

The Devils held a 13-6 lead early in the game but Washington would battle back to pull in front, 21-20, at 9:01 mark. First-year Brian Gerney (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) knocked-down a three-pointer to give the lead back to the Devils. Classmate Adam Honig (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) drained a three-pointer at the 4:10 mark to put the Devils back in front by seven, 35-28.

 

Senior Matt Dolan (Chalfont, Pa./St. Joe's Prep) converted a pair of free throws with 2:23 remaining in the half to give the Devils their biggest lead of the game, 39-31. Washington answered to make the score, 39-33 at intermission.

 

The Devils scored a pair of quick baskets to stretch the margin to double-figures with just over a minute gone in the second half. The Shoremen would twice pull within four points, but the Devils answered each time, stretching the lead to 13 with 9:08 to play in the game.

 

Dolan drained a three-pointer with 1:52 left to play, putting the Devils in front by double-figures for the rest of the game.

 

Dolan matched a game-high with 20 points, just missing a double-double with nine rebounds. He added four assists and went 6-for-7 from the free throw line. Tucker Landy (Durham, Conn./Xavier) tallied 13 points, hitting 7-of-10 free throws to go with four rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block.

 

Honig finished with 10 points, hitting 3-of-5 shots from the floor and the line. Gerney scored eight points and handed out two assists in the first half, before leaving with an injury. Junior Chris Heine (Spring Lake, N.J./St. Rose) controlled eight rebounds while sophomore Doug Jakiela (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) chipped in with eight points and five rebounds. Chris Barsanti (Hummelstown, Pa./Tilton School) scored seven points and  grabbed four rebounds.

 

Sal Schittino led Washington (6-15, 5-9) with 20 points, hitting 7-of-10 shots. Kevin Breslin added 14 points and eight rebounds.

 

The Red Devils move into second place in the Centennial Conference, improving to 11-10 overall and 9-5 in conference play. They travel to Muhlenberg College on Wednesday night to tip-off against the Mules at 7:30 pm.
