(Middletown, Pa.) – The Dickinson College baseball team tied the school record for wins in a season, improving to 18-14 overall with a 14-3 victory at Penn State Harrisburg on Monday afternoon.
Junior Garrett Horan (Providence, R.I./Moses Brown) went 3-for-5, scoring three runs and driving in another. Classmate Tyler Rosa' (Carmel, Calif./ Stevenson School) went 3-for-4, scoring three runs and drawing a pair of walks. The Devils got three runs each from Andrew Sterling (Houston, Texas/Episcopal) and Joe Tursi (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City). They each tallied two hits and combined for five RBIs.
The Devils jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning. Mike Schuster (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) led-off the game with a single, stole second and scored on an RBI single from Horan. Rosa' doubled and came across with Horan on a single by Tursi.
Sterling reached on a walk and scored on an error with Tursi coming in on a wild pitch for the 5-0 lead. The Lions scored one in the fourth, scoring on a wild pitch.
The Devils blew the game open in the sixth with another five-run inning. Evan Hennessy (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) walked and scored on an error. Sterling drove in Rosa' and Horan with a triple and came in himself on a passed ball for a 9-1 lead. Tursi added another run, drawing a walk, stealing third and scoring on an error by the catcher.
Horan scored again in the seventh, reaching on a single and coming in as Sterling reached on an error to right field. The Lions pushed across two in the bottom of the seventh with a two-RBI triple by Nick Knull.
Tursi added another RBI and scored again in the ninth. The Devils had RBI singles from Mike Vecchio (West Morris, N.J./West Morris Central) and Connor Foote (Narbeth, Maine/Lower Merion) as Rosa' and Sterling scored for the final of 14-3.
The Red Devils pounded out 15 hits on the afternoon and drew 11 walks.
Junior Matt Vidal (Bronx, N.Y./All Hollows) turned in another strong performance on the mound. He earned the win, recording 11 strikeouts in an eight-inning effort. First-year Ken Henry (Old Saybrook, Conn./Old Saybrook) came on in relief.
Tim Gonzalez led Penn State (7-23), going 3-for-5 while Knull went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
The Devils improve to 18-14 overall. They return home to face Muhlenberg College on Wednesday at 3:30 pm.
