#11-Eagles, Host Blue Jays Post Wins Over Devils

(Elizabethtown, Pa.) – The Dickinson College volleyball team suffered a pair of losses at the Days Inn Blue Jay Invitational on Friday evening. The Devils dropped a 3-0 decision to #11-ranked Juniata College and had a 3-1 setback to the host Blue Jays.

 

Juniata jumped out to an early lead, taking the first two sets 25-8, 25-14. The Red Devils rallied before falling, 25-20, in the third set.

 

Liz Norris (Southbury, Conn./Hotchkiss School) led the way with nine kills and six digs while Avery Zuvic, (Cold Spring, N.Y./Haldane) recorded six kills, 10 digs and served up an ace.

 

Samantha Iazzetta (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) added five kills and seven digs in the opener.  Sophomore setter Grace Morgan (York, Pa./York Suburban) handed out 21 assists.

 

In the nightcap the Devils took a quick lead before Elizabethtown answered to pull in front 12-4 in the first set. They went on to claim the opening frame, 25-10. An almost identical start in the second, led to another 12-4 advantage for the Blue Jays. The hosts went on to take a 2-0 lead, 25-16.

 

Norris served the Devils to a 6-0 start in the third set behind an ace and a pair of kills from Iazzetta. The Devils stretched the margin to 11-4 before a run by Elizabethtown pulled them within three at 14-11. They would get no closer than three points the rest of the way as Dickinson pulled within 2-1.

 

In the fourth set, the Blue Jays scored the first three points and built another comfortable advantage at 12-5. They would go on to win the match with a 25-9 score in the final set.

 

Sophomore Emily Kisak (Columbia, Md./Howard) led the Devils with a match-high 13 kills, adding 10 digs as well. Iazzetta chipped in with nine kills and a pair of aces. Norris and Zuvic each tallied five kills. Norris added a pair of aces and five digs. Zuvic reached double-figures with 11 digs, adding an ace.

 

Mia Bedford (Winnetka, Ill./North Shore  Country Day) had a match-high 14 digs on the night.

 

The Red Devils slip to 2-10 on the season. They return to Centennial Conference action at Muhlenberg next Saturday at 11:00 am.
