Devils Anchor Shoremen, Roll to 76-41 Win

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College men's basketball team was firing on all pistons, rolling to a 76-41 win over visiting Washington College on Thursday night.

 

The win marks the largest margin in series history as the Red Devils held Washington to just 24 percent shooting on the night. No one reached double-figures as Kevin Cunningham and John Weston each tallied a team-high five points to lead the Shoremen.

 

The Devils led early but Washington answered, hitting back-to-back three-pointers to lead, 14-11, with 11:10 to play in the first half.

 

A 13-2 run put the Devils up by 10 with just under three minutes to play in the first half. The Devils stretched the lead to 33-20 at the break.

 

The Devils turned up the defense in the second half. Washington trailed 37-23 before going almost seven minutes without a basket.

 

Meanwhile the Devils opened the game up, leading 52-25 at the 12:13 mark. Dickinson continued to roll, extending the lead to as many as 38 in the final minutes.

 

Three Devils reached double-figures on the night. First-year Gerry Wixted (Moorestown, N.J./Lawrenceville School) led the way with a double-double performance, scoring a game-high 14 points, adding 11 rebounds, two steals and an assist. He was perfect from the line, hitting 8-of-8 attempts.

 

Sophomore Adam Honig (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) went 6-for-6 from the line, scoring 12 points to go with five rebounds, five assists and four steals. Classmate Tucker Landy (Durham, Conn./Xavier) turned in a strong performance as well, scoring 10 points, controlling seven rebounds and handing out three assists.

 

Senior Chris Heine (Spring Lake, N.J./St. Rose) knocked-down a pair of three-pointers, finishing with nine points, three rebounds and three assists.

 

The Red Devils improve to 6-8 overall and 3-4 in the Centennial Conference. They are home again on Saturday, hosting Swarthmore College at 4:00 pm.
