(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's volleyball team put up a solid fight against visiting Messiah, but suffered a 3-1 setback to the Falcons on Thursday night.
Senior Lauren Rees became Messiah's all-time leader in career kills, eclipsing the previous mark of 1,083.
The Falcons gained an early advantage, claiming a hard-fought first set, 25-23. They broke away in the second to take a 2-0 lead in the match, winning 21-16. The Red Devils answered with a solid performance to capture the third, 26-24, and pressed Messiah the entire way before dropping the fourth, 25-21.
Senior Avery Zuvic (Cold Spring, N.Y./Haldane) led the attack with 10 kills on the night. Junior Jessie Shaffner (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) recorded nine kills and had nine digs while Emily Kisak (Columbia, Md./Howard) chipped in with six kills and four blocks.
First-year Emily Smith (Victor, N.Y./Victor) and senior Sam Iazzetta (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) each added seven kills and Smith served up three aces and had five digs. Junior libero Grace Morgan (York, Pa./York Suburban) recorded 11 digs while setter Jenn Morrissey (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) handed out 33 assists on the night.
Messiah improves to 16-5 overall while the Devils drop their first match in four outings, slipping to 4-12 on the season. The Red Devils return to Centennial Conference action on Saturday, traveling to Washington College for a 12:00 pm start.
