(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's soccer team surrendered an early goal to visiting Johns Hopkins and suffered a 1-0 setback on Wednesday night. The #22-ranked Blue Jays scored in the eighth minute as Kelly Baker recovered a rebound, 7:49 into the contest to put Hopkins on the board. It marked the first match for the women on the newly added Phyllis Joan Miller Memorial Field.
Issy Berkey tallied an assist, firing off a shot that was saved by senior goaltender Annie Weichert (Chatham, N.J./Chatham), but the rebound went right to Baker for what would prove to be the lone goal and the game-winner.
The Blue Jays held a 12-5 advantage in shots in the opening half, but the Devils controlled play for the majority of the second, holding the edge, 6-4. Hopkins also had a 6-3 advantage in corners in the first half, while neither team allowed any after the break.
Weichert finished with nine saves on the night while Meredith Maguire stopped seven shots for the Blue Jays.
Hopkins improves to 11-3-1 overall and 6-1 in the Centennial Conference. The Red Devils slip to 10-5 and 4-4 in the CC. They travel to Ursinus College on Saturday to face the Bears at 3:00 pm.
