Mules Top Devils to Keep Title Hopes Alive

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson football team had a long afternoon at Biddle Field, suffering a 61-21 loss to visiting Muhlenberg College on Saturday.

 

The Red Devils came out strong early on, holding the Mules to just six points with a blocked extra-point. Walker Moriarty (Snowmass Village, Colo./Aspen) recovered a fumble on the Diplomats' 22 yard line, leading to a one-play drive and a touchdown for senior Matt Wood (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall).

 

Wood hauled in a pass from sophomore Cole Ahnell (Rockville, Md./Walter Johnson) to give the Devils a 7-6 lead with 14:36 to play in the half.

 

Muhlenberg answered with three straight scores. Dan Deighan threw a pair of touchdown passes, covering six and 65 yards before Terrence Dandridge capped a 90 yard drive with a three yard run to put the Mules in front, 27-7.

 

The Devils struck back as Ahnell hit Wood again, who ran 65 yards for his second touchdown of the game, with 2:08 remaining in the half.

 

The Mules tacked on a 20 yard field-goal to take a 30-14 lead into halftime. Things went the Mules' way in the third quarter as they scored three touchdowns to stretch the lead to 51-14.

 

Connor Winter kicked a 42 yard field-goal to open the fourth quarter and Joe Carlucci broke free from 18 yards out for his second touchdown to close out the scoring for the Mules.

 

Jake Meluskey (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) ran for 26 yards and scored from the eight to cap a 40 yard drive.

 

The Mules totaled 591 yards of offense on the day. Deighan threw for 325 yards and two touchdowns. Isaiah Vaughan caught five passes for 149 yards while Dandridge rushed for 112 yards and three touchdowns. Ian Gimber led the defense with nine tacklesand a sack. Tim Vogel intercepted two passes and covered 92 yards in returns.

 

Ahnell threw for 215 yards and rushed for 28. Wood finished with five catches for 139 yards and two touchdowns.

 

Shane Mitchell (Whitehaven, Pa./Crestwood) tallied nine tackles while Marek Laco (Potomac, Md./Landon) recorded seven, including six solo stops. Moriarty added six tackles, a tackle for loss of 10 yards, fumble recovery and blocked kick.

 

Pat McBreen (Schuylkill Haven, Pa./Schuylkill Haven) also had a 13 yard tackle for loss, making five tackles on the day. Connor Thompson (Jenkintown, Pa./Father Judge) made an interception in the end zone to stall a Diplomat drive.

 

The Mules improve to 6-2 overall and 5-2 in the Centennial Conference. The Red Devils slip to 3-5 and 3-4 on the year. Dickinson is home again on Friday night, hosting Gettysburg College in the battle for the Little Brown Bucket. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
