Devil Swimmers Drop Opener to Ursinus

 

 

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's swim team opened the 2012-13 season with a 117.5-87.5 win over visiting Ursinus College on Saturday afternoon. The Red Devil women suffered a 113-92 setback in their opener against the Bears.

 

Jason Adams (Kingston, Jamaica/Kent School, Conn.) captured three wins on the night, touching the wall first in the 50 free and the 100 backstroke with times of 21.64 and 53.69. He swam the lead leg of the 200 medley relay as well (1:37.39).

 

Ed Barnard (Springfield, Pa./Haverford School) won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:01.72. He joined the medley relay and placed second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.46. Cris Miranda (Columuba, Ohio/Upper Arlington) swam the third leg of the medley relay and won the 100 butterfly, clocking a time of 55.32.

 

Brandon Gauthier (Green Lane, Pa./Hempfield) anchored the relay and added a win in the 200 individual medley (2:03.56) and placed second in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.77).

 

First-year Theo Hubbard (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) won the 200 freestyle (1:49.18) and placed second in the 500 with a time of 5:02.48. He anchored the 200 free relay to a tie for first in 1:31.79. Senior Kevin Chibbaro (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick Twp.) swam the lead leg of the free relay and placed second in the 100 freestyle.

 

The women were led by first-year Caitlin Klockner (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough Reg.) with a win in the 200 freestyle (2:00.45) and second place showings in the 100 freestyle (54.80) and with the 200 free relay, anchoring the team to a time of 1:45.65.

 

Sophomore Alexandra Goodson (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) placed second in the 50 freestyle (26.41), the 100 breaststroke (1:12.86) and as the lead leg of the free relay. First-year Clara Russell (Oakdale, N.Y./Connectquot) touched the wall 26 one-hundredths of a second ahead of Goodson in the breaststroke, adding second place finishes in the 200 IM (2:42.37) and with the medley relay.

 

The Devils finished 2-3-4 in the 100 butterfly, led by sophomore Caroline Brennan (Madison, N.J./Madison) in second with a time of 1:04.09.

 

The Red Devil men and women host the University of Scranton next Saturday at 1:00 pm.
