(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's soccer team scored five goals in the first half and that would be the difference as they posted a 5-0 win over visiting Bryn Mawr College on Saturday.
First-year Erin Sutphen (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) broke through and put the Devils on scoreboard, just 4:47 into the game. Sophomore Cate Maugle (Glenmoore, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) found the back of the net, following a scramble to put the Devils in front, 2-0, with just over five minutes gone in the first half.
The Red Devils stretched the margin to 3-0 as junior Olivia Licata (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands) redirected a beautiful cross from classmate Samantha Friday (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional) in the 21st minute.
First-year Madison Lawson (Duxbury, Mass./Duzbury) served another outstanding cross on a corner, and senior Marissa Kunkle (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) redirected a header into the back to the net to extend the Devil lead to 4-0 with just over 20 minutes to play in the half.
Sophomore Jess Swain (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends) closed out the scoring for the half, and for the game, with a final Red Devil tally with four minutes on the clock.
Bryn Mawr turned in a solid performance in the second half, holding the Devils to just nine shots after allowing 25 in the opening half. The Devils held a 7-2 advantage in corners, holding a 6-1 edge in the first half as well.
Senior Annie Weichert (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) and sophomore Liz Cassin (Summit, N.J./Summit) split the shutout, each making one save on the day. Rebecca Joseph finished with 12 saves in the nets for Bryn Mawr.
The Owls slip to 3-5-3 overall and 1-3-2 in the Centennial Conference. The Red Devils improve to 8-3 on the year and 3-2 in the CC. Dickinson is home again on Monday night, hosting Albright College at 7:00 pm.
