Devils Win Third Straight to Pull Even in Conference Play

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's volleyball team won its third straight match, improving to 3-3 in the Centennial Conference. The Red Devils turned in a strong performance on Tuesday night, turning back Bryn Mawr College, 3-1.

 

The Red Devils jumped out to a 10-6 lead in the opening set and led 17-12 before the Owls rallied to pull with two points, at 19-17. Dickinson regrouped to close out things out, 25-19, to take an early lead.

 

The Owls gained an early advantage in the second, taking a quick, 5-2 lead. The Devils pulled even at, 11-11, and the set stayed within two points the rest of the way. The Devils tried to catch the Owls after they edged in front, 24-21, but dropped game two, 25-23.

 

The Devils stormed out to a 7-1 lead in the third set, and led 14-5 to force the Owls to call their second timeout of the set. Dickinson finished strong to take a 2-1 advantage with a 25-14 decision. They came out strong again in the fourth set, taking a 7-3 lead in the early going.

 

Bryn Mawr pulled even at, 15-15, and was able to keep the Devils in striking distance until a final run closed out the match, 25-19, to secure the win.

 

First-year Emily Smith (Victor, N.Y./Victor) led the attack with a match-high 17 kills, adding four aces and seven digs. Senior Sam Iazzetta (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) recorded 15 kills on the night, adding six digs and a pair of blocks.

 

First-year Jenn Morrissey (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) dished out a match-high 47 assists, adding three kills while junior Jessie Shaffner (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs to go with a pair of blocks and two aces on the night. Senior Avery Zuvic (Cold Spring, N.Y./Haldane) added timely kills, finishing with eight.

 

Junior Emily Kisak (Columbia, Md./Howard) served up three aces, adding three blocks and three kills while Grace Morgan (York, Pa./York Suburban) and Joanna De Castro (Far Hills, N.J./West Morris Mendham) combined for 12 digs.

 

Rachel Ofili led Bryn Mawr (7-14, 1-5) with 12 kills while Hannah Rosebrock added 10. Danielle Preziuso handed out 45 assists.

 

The Red Devils (4-11, 3-3) are home again on Thursday, hosting Messiah College at 7:00 pm.
