(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's basketball team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 68-53 win over Swarthmore College in the Centennial Conference opener on Tuesday night.
The Red Devils opened a seven-point lead in the opening six minutes and stretched the margin to as many as 16 in the first half. Swarthmore's Karl Barkley hit a three-pointer to cut the lead to four with 10 minutes to play.
The Red Devils went on a run, outscoring the Garnet, 14-2, to hold a 30-14 advantage with 5:07 remaining in the first half. Barkley answered with four free throws and three-pointer to help Swarthmore cut the margin to 35-26 at the break.
Sophomore Gerry Wixted (Moorestown, N.J./Lawrenceville) hit a three-pointer to open the second half. Junior Tucker Landy (Durham, N.C./Xavier) added a triple and dunk to give the Devils a 48-33 edge at the 14:42 mark.
Senior guard Logan Furr (Sharon, Mass./Beaver Country Day) knocked-down a three-pointer to give Dickinson its biggest lead off the night at 63-45, with just over six minutes to play.
The Red Devils outscored the Garnet 11-2 on turnovers while handing out assists on 17 of-22 field-goals. Landy scored 10 points in the second half to lead the Devils with 13 on the night. He hit 5-of-7 shots from the floor and controlled six rebounds.
Landy was one of four Red Devils to reach double-figures. Senior Chris Barsanti (Hummelstown, Pa./Tilton School) scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds while dishing out five assists. He went 5-for-6 from the free throw line as well. Sophomore Chris Cox (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West) scored 12 points as well, adding eight rebounds and a throw-down dunk it the first half.
Wixted finished with 10 points and eight rebounds to with three blocked shots while junior Adam Honig (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) recorded a game-high eight assists for the game.
Barkley finished with a game-high 20 points to lead the Garnet as they slip to 0-3 on the season.
The Red Devils are off to a 3-0 start. They will travel to Juniata College on Saturday for a non-conference match-up with the Eagles at 4:00 pm.
