(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's swim team turned in a strong team performance to hold off visiting Messiah College, 112-93, on Tuesday night.
The Red Devils captured the top two spots in the 100 breaststroke to secure the win as first-years Caitlin Klockner (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough Regional) and Clara Russell (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) touched the wall in 1:14.28 and 1:14.31, respectively to put the Devils over the top. Klockner added two more wins, claiming the 100 and 200 freestyle events with times of 55.42 and 2:00.22. Russell anchored the second-place medley relay (1:58.95) and took third in the 200 individual medley (2:20.12).
The Red Devils went one-two-three in the 1000 yard freestyle, led by Caroline Brennan (Madison, N.J./Madison) with a time of 11:07.24. Sophomores Nora Snee (Falls Church, Va./JEB Stuart) and Carla Vazquez-Ramos (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) came in second and third, clocking times of 11:18.76 and 11:20.35. Brennan swept the distance events with a win in the 500 free as well (5:27.34), while Snee was second at 5:28.41. Vazquez-Ramos placed third in the 100 butterfly (1:04.94) and anchored the second-place 200 free relay (1:47.19).
Sophomore Johanna Flemming (Northampton, Mass./Northampton) had a solid night as well, placing second in the 200 individual medley (2:20.15) and with the 200 medley relay (1:58.95). She came in third in the 100 freestyle as well, posting a time of 57.14.
Senior Maky Sullivan (South Hadley, Mass./Holyoke Catholic) led-off the medley relay and placed third in the 100 backstroke (1:05.15) while classmate Betsy Mullally (Nottingham, Md./Roland Park) was second in the backstroke (1:05.01) and swam the lead-leg of the free relay for another second.
The Red Devils improve to 5-4 overall. They next compete at the International Swimming Hall of Fame Invitational in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida on January 4th.
