Balanced Attack Helps Devils Top Terror 69-55

(Westminster, Md.) – The Dickinson College men's basketball team built a lead and held off a late run by host McDaniel to post a 69-55 win on Wednesday night. All five Red Devil starters reached double-figures with three players netting a team-high 13 on the night.

 

First-year Gerry Wixted (Moorestown, N.J./Lawrenceville School) recorded a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds, adding a pair of assists, three blocked shots and a steal. Sophomore Thomas McInerney (York, Pa./York Suburban) added 13 points and three rebounds, hitting 5-of-8 shots from the floor.

 

Sophomore guard Adam Honig (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) tallied 13 points and two assists while classmate Tucker Landy (Durham, Conn./Xavier) was just shy of a double-double with 10 points and eight rebounds to go with a pair of steals and two assists. Junior Chris Barsanti (Hummelstown, Pa./Tilton School) tallied 12 points, hitting 6-of-9 free throws.

 

The Red Devils led for almost the entire game, taking a 13-7 lead in the opening five minutes. They used a 16-5 run stretch a four point advantage to 16 with just over a minute to play in the first half. Dickinson pulled in front 37-21 and went into halftime, in front, 37-34.

 

McDaniel chipped away at the lead, cutting the deficit to 43-38 with 11:34 remaining in the game. Dickinson went on a 15-1 run for their biggest lead of the game, 58-39, at the 5:37 mark. The Green Terror fought back once more, pulling within eight, 63-55, with just over a minute to play.

 

The Devils would sink 4-of-6 free throws down the stretch to secure the win. Landy hit 3-of-4, adding a steal, assist and two defensive rebounds in the final minute of action.

 

Louis Sarris-Grau scored a game-high 14 points to lead McDaniel (7-13, 4-9). Tyler Rudd controlled 10 rebounds on the night.

 

The Red Devils improve to 11-9 overall and 8-5 in the Centennial Conference. They have another key road trip on Saturday, traveling to Washington College for an 4:00 pm tip-off.
