Unselfish Devils Down Muhlenberg 79-60

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College men's basketball team avenged a road loss in Allentown with a 79-60 win at home, topping visiting Muhlenberg in a key Centennial Conference match-up on Wednesday night.

 

The Red Devils opened the game with a three-pointer from first-year Gerry Wixted (Moorestown, N.J./Lawrenceville School) and never looked back, leading the entire way to improve to 10-5 in conference play.

 

The Devils jumped out to 13-5 lead at the 13:57 mark and answered a run by the Mules to hold a 24-17 advantage with 6:42 to play in the first half. Wixted closed out the half with a three-point play, giving Dickinson a 33-27 lead at the break.

 

The Devils held a five to seven point advantage in the early going of the second half. They used an 8-1 run to extend the lead to 51-40 at the 12:46 mark. They continued to stretch the margin to as many as 27 points, leading 79-52 with 2:37 remaining in the game. The Mules finished with an 8-0 run to cut the final margin to 79-60.

 

Wixted had another monster outing, scoring 13 points and controlling a game-high 15 rebounds, including six on the offensive end. He dished out a game-high six assists and hit 6-of-7 free throws. Sophomore Tucker Landy (Durham, Conn./Xavier) turned in an outstanding performance as well. He tallied 13 points, eight rebounds and handed out five assists on the night. Landy went 4-for-4 from the line, adding a pair of steals and a blocked shot.

 

Five Red Devils reached double-figures. Adam Honig (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley ) and Thomas McInerney (York, Pa./York Suburban) each scored 12 points and combined for 10 rebounds. Honig added three assists and a pair of three-pointers.

 

Senior Chris Heine (Spring Lake, N.J./St. Rose) chipped in with 11 points, hitting a trio of three-pointers and controlling five rebounds. First-year Pete Yingst (Hanover, Pa./Hanover) came off the bench to give the Devils great minutes, scoring eight points, hitting 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. Junior Chris Barsanti (Hummelstown, Pa./Tilton School) went 5-for-6 from the line for seven points.

 

Spencer Lidic led the Mules (14-8, 8-7) with 16 points and 10 rebounds, hitting 10-of-15 free throws. Malique Killing went 10-for-13 from the line for 16 points as well.

 

The Red Devils improve to 13-9 overall and 10-5 in the conference. They travel to Haverford College on Saturday for a 1:00 pm tip-off.
