(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's soccer team improved to 5-0 on the season, striking early to post a 1-0 win over York College on Wednesday afternoon.
Sophomore Allie Young (New Canaan, Conn./St. Luke's) collected a rebound off a shot from classmate Cate Maugle (Glenmoore, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) to put the Red Devils on the board in the 15th minute. That was the first goal allowed by the Spartans this season, as they entered the game, 2-0-2, with a pair of 0-0 draws so far this season.
The Devils held the edge in possession but the Spartans did have moments when they were able to create some quality scoring chances throughout the game. Senior goaltender Annie Weichert (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) turned in a strong performance in the nets, making six saves to record the shutout.
Sophomore Melanie Glessner was solid in goal as well, stopping six shots for York.
The Red Devils finished with a 14-8 advantage in shots and forced a pair of corners, which led to a pair of strong scoring chances. Glessner made a great save while one of the Spartan defenders saved a goal with an outstanding play on the goal line.
The Red Devils remain unbeaten, improving to 5-0 on the season. They travel to Haverford College on Saturday for their Centennial Conference opener. Kick-off is set for 1:00 pm.
