(Grantham, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's soccer team, ranked 13th in the latest NSCAA national poll, suffered a 2-0 setback to #5-ranked Messiah College on Wednesday afternoon. The Falcons scored late in both halves to remain unbeaten on the year, while handing the Red Devils their first loss of 2012.
Messiah struck with just 3:14 remaining in the first half as Dan Squire scored with assists from Mike Kovach and Josh Kremers to give the hosts a 1-0 lead at the break.
Despite a 17-4 shot count in favor of the Falcons, the Devils played well and held their own in the midfield. Dickinson forced five corners on the offensive end but only allowed one opportunity on the defensive side of the field.
Messiah tacked on a late goal as Jeremy Payne finished an Aaron Myers cross with just 1:01 remaining in the match.
Senior goaltender Cody Hickok (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) made five saves in the nets for Dickinson. Brandon West stopped one shot as Messiah improves to 5-0-1 on the year. The Red Devils slip to 6-1 overall. They return to Centennial Conference action this weekend, traveling to Swarthmore College for a 4:00 kick-off.
