(Carlisle, Pa.) - The Dickinson women's volleyball team had an intense homecoming victory this weekend over Muhlenberg, outlasting the Mules, 3-2.
During the first set, senior Sam Iazzetta (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa), came full force with their first kill against the Mules. With long volleys, it felt as if these teams would be a fair match for this spirited homecoming event.
After winning the first set, the Red Devils pushed into the second where Jessie Shaffner (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) and Iazzetta each added two more kills each, pressuring the Mules further. Unfortunately, the second set got away, resulting in a 25-12 decision for Muhlenberg.
With the crowd becoming even more fired up, the Devils charged once again, claiming the third set. The Mules answered again, winning the fourth set to force a deciding game five. Dickinson gathered their moral and sprung back with vengeance. Carefully placed hits led the Devils to a 15-11 decision to capture the win.
First-year Emily Smith (Victor, N.Y./Victor) led the Red Devils with a match-high 16 kills, adding nine digs and three service aces. Iazzetta finished with six kills and 12 digs while Shaffner tallied seven kills and nine digs on the day.
Sophomore Emily Kisak (Columbia, Md./Howard) added six kills and seven blocks with senior Avery Zuvic (Cold Spring, N.Y./Haldane) chipping in with five kills.
