(Collegeville, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's basketball team moved into first place in the Centennial Conference standings, posting an 82-63 win at Ursinus College on Saturday. The Devils hold a half-game advantage on Franklin & Marshall with both teams at 9-3 in conference play. Haverford handed the Diplomats their third conference loss on Saturday, 52-42.
The Red Devils struck first and led the entire way, stretching the lead to as many as 31, at one point in the second half. Junior Adam Honig (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) knocked-down a three-pointer to put the Devils up, 7-0, early in the game.
A three-pointer from senior Logan Furr (Sharon, Mass./Beaver Country Day) stretched the Dickinson lead to 19, its largest of the half, with 4:19 to play. Jon Ward kept the Bears in the game with 10 first-half points, going perfect from the line at 6-for-6.
Honig scored 16 points in the opening stanza to give the Devils a 44-31 lead at the break. Senior Chris Barsanti (Hummelstown, Pa./Tilton School, Conn.) opened the second half with a three-pointer. That triggered a 9-2 run for the Devils, stretching the margin to 55-35, at the 15:45 mark.
Barsanti gave the Devils their largest advantage of the night, scoring on a lay-up to extend the lead to 31, 76-45, with 7:13 still remaining in regulation. The Bears were able to somewhat close the gap down the stretch for the final of 82-63.
Honig finished with 20 points, handing out five assists on the night. Barsanti tallied 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting while controlling six rebounds. Sophomore Gerry Wixted (Moorestown, N.J./Lawrenceville School) reached double-figures as well with 13 points. He dished out a game-high six assists, adding six rebounds and converting 5-of-6 free throws.
Furr tallied seven points and five rebounds, adding a pair of assists. Tucker Landy (Durham, Conn./Xavier) chipped in with seven points and two assists while Steve Collins (Rydal, Pa./La Salle College) scored six points and controlled four rebounds. He was perfect from the line as the Devils combined to hit 15-of-16 (94%) free throws in the game.
Ward led Ursinus (7-12, 5-7) with 12 points, hitting 8-of-8 free throw attempts. Ryan Adams recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
The Red Devils improve to 14-5 overall and 9-3 in the Centennial Conference. They return home to face McDaniel College next Thursday at 8:00 pm.
