(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's volleyball match Gettysburg College, almost point for point on Thursday night, but suffered a 3-1 setback in the end.
The Bullets jumped out to an early lead in the opening set, but watched the Red Devils rally before they could take a 1-0 advantage with a 25-20 win. The Red Devils answered in the second, pulling even, 25-20, behind six kills from sophomore Laura Silverman (Marlborough, Mass./Marlborough).
Silverman tacked on seven more kills in a highly contested third set. The Bullets survived in the end, 26-24, to take a 2-1 lead in the match. Dickinson had chances in another marathon set, pulling even at 24-24. The Bullets slipped away with the set and the match, 27-25, as they improve to 4-1 in the Centennial Conference.
Silverman finished with a match-high 19 kills on the night, adding a solo block as well. Sophomore Emily Smith (Victor, N.Y./Victor) added 12 kills while first-year Lauren Ahern (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown) tallied 11 kills and a pair of blocks.
First-year Maureen Marsh (Great Falls, Va./Langley) chipped in with eight kills and two solo blocks on the night. Sophomore Jenn Morrissey (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) dished out 22 assists while first-year Avery Dravis Stark (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park) handed out 20.
Seniors Grace Morgan (Williamsburg, Va./York Suburban) and Joanna De Castro (Far Hills, N.J./West Morris Mendham) anchored the defensive effort, each recording 13 digs.
The Red Devils slip to 5-12 overall and 0-5 in conference play. They are on the road this weekend, traveling to Washington College on Saturday for a 1:00 pm start.
