(Chestertown, Md.) – The Dickinson women's volleyball team traded sets with host Washington College on Saturday, but dropped another heartbreaker in the end as the Shorewomen claimed the deciding set, 15-10.
The Red Devils came out strong, winning the first set, 25-22. Washington answered in the second, posting a 25-15 decision to pull even. Dickinson posted a repeat performance from the opening set, taking a 2-1 lead with another scored of 25-22.
The host Shorewomen rallied to force a fourth set, winning the third, 25-20. They held on to take the match, 15-10, in the fifth set.
Washington had three players reach double-figures for kills, led by Caitlin Cooney with a team-high 17, adding nine digs and three blocks. Kristin Lee added 12 kills and 22 digs while Rachel Becker tallied 11 kills and 15 digs on the afternoon.
Sophomore Emily Smith (Victor, N.Y./Victor) led the Red Devil attack with a match-high 23 kills, adding eight digs. Classmate Laura Silverman (Marlborough, Mass./Marlborough) had another strong outing, recording 17 kills for the match.
Senior Joanna De Castro (Far Hills, N.J,/West Morris Mendham) anchored the defense with a match-high 23 digs while classmate Grace Morgan (Williamsburg, Va./York Suburban) tallied 22 digs and served up four aces.
Sophomore Jenn Morrissey (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) and first-year Avery Dravis Stark (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park) combined for 48 assists on the day. Morrissey added 13 digs and a pair of aces as well. First-year Arielle Misrok (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) also chipped in with 16 digs.
The Red Devils slip to 5-13 overall and 0-6 in the Centennial Conference. They travel to Ursinus College next Saturday to face the Bears at 1:00 pm.
