(Carlisle, Pa.) – The #10-ranked Dickinson men's soccer team posted its 10th win of the season, shutting out Eastern Mennonite University, 3-0, on Tuesday night at Phyllis Miller Memorial Field.
Senior Javier Mena (San Salvador, El Salavador) put the Red Devils in the board in the 18th minute, collecting a loose ball at the top of the 18-yard box and finding the back of the net with his fifth goal of the season. Mena almost had a second, rattling the ball of the post, later in the half.
Classmate Derek Kachadurian (Weston, Mass./Weston) added an insurance goal with just under 15 minutes remaining in the half, netting his sixth tally of the year.
The Red Devils tacked on a late goal as sophomore Jonathan Harper (Westwood, Mass./Westwood) found junior George Naranjo (Miramar, Fla./American Heritage-Delray) open on the left side of the penalty area. Naranjo lofted a beautifully placed shot, over the head of the goalkeeper and into the right corner of the net, with just 1:44 remaining in the match.
The Red Devils held the advantage for the better part of the night, but the Royals continued to provide quality play throughout as well. Dickinson did hold a significant advantage in shots, 32-10, but solid play and 10 saves from Andrew Yoder kept the Devils at least somewhat contained on the night.
First-year Jeremy Palcan (Park Ridge, Ill./St. Ignatius College Prep) earned the start in the nets, making a pair of saves on the night. Junior Reed Milbrath (Dickerson, Md./Sandy Springs Friends) came on for the second half, making two stops as well, to preserve the shutout.
Eastern Mennonite suffers its 11th loss of the year, falling to 3-11 overall. The Red Devils, ranked 10th in the latest D3soccer.com national poll, and 13th in the NSCAA rankings this week. Dickinson improves to 10-2-1 on the season. The Red Devils are on the road this Saturday, traveling to Swarthmore College for a key Centennial Conference match-up.
