(Carlisle, Pa.) – Junior Samantha Abbott and sophomore Rachel Ofili combined for 39 kills to lead the Bryn Mawr College volleyball team to a 3-2 win on Thursday night.
The teams traded sets en route to deciding fifth game. The Owls claimed the opener, 25-19, behind five kills from Abbott. Sophomore Laura Silverman (Marlborough, Mass./Marlborough) answered with six kills in the second to lead Dickinson to a 25-16 decision.
Bryn Mawr responded to take a 2-1 advantage, holding on for a 25-20 win. A balanced attack in the fourth kept the Devils hopes alive as they pulled even with a strong showing, 25-15. Silverman led the way again with five kills while Lauren Ahern (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown) added four and Emily Smith (Victor, N.Y./Victor) tallied three.
The Owls jumped out to an early lead in the fifth, and carried the momentum to the end, claiming the match with a 15-8 decision. Ofili led the way with six kills for a match-high 23 on the night, adding nine block assists as well.
Silverman turned in another solid effort, recording 22 kills. Smith tallied 15 for the match while Ahern closed out the night with 13. Sophomore setter Jenn Morrissey (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) dished out 32 assists while first-year Avery Dravis Stark (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park) handed out 23.
Sophomore Mairi Poisson (Cheshire, Conn./Miss Porter's School) served up four of 14 Red Devil aces on the night. Grace Morgan (Williamsburg, Va./York Suburban) and Arielle Misrok (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) combined for 19 digs and each recorded three aces. Senior Joanna De Castro (Far Hills, N.J./West Morris Mendham) tallied three aces and six digs.
Danielle Preziuso led the Owls with 48 assists as they improve to 12-14 overall and 2-7 in the Centennial Conference.
The Red Devils slip to 6-14 overall and 1-7 in the CC. They are home again on Saturday, hosting Franklin & Marshall at 1:00 pm.
