(Haverford, Pa.) – The #13-ranked Dickinson men's soccer team posted a key Centennial Conference win on Saturday, turning back Haverford College, 3-1.
The Red Devils were highly motivated entering the game, scoring in the opening four minutes. Senior Jamie Martin (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) struck first, scoring off an assist from Isaac Pitkow (Jenkintown, Pa./Abington), just 3:31 into the match. Pitkow lofted a ball that Martin headed past Haverford goalkeeper, Nick Kahn.
The 'Fords pulled even before the break as Matthew Clausen tallied his first goal of the season, off an assist from David Robinson, in the 31st minute.
The Red Devils regained the lead in the 56th minute when sophomore Braeden Kelly (Brookeville, Md./Sandy Springs Friends) tallied an unassisted goal, slipping the ball between Kahn and the near post. First-year Danny Sheppard (Rydal, Pa./Abington) added an insurance goal with just 1:57 left in regulation, scoring from long range to secure the win for Dickinson.
The teams were dead-even in shots, each firing off 10 on the afternoon. The Red Devils held a 9-6 advantage on corners. Kahn made one save in the nets for Haverford as they fall to 7-3 overall and 2-2 in the Centennial Conference.
First-year Jeremy Palcan (Park Ridge, Ill./St. Ignatius College Prep) made the start in goal for the Red Devils. He stopped five shots on the day as Dickinson improved to 8-2-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the CC.
The Red Devils return home to face Gettysburg College next Saturday at 1:00 pm.
